Paris: French banking giant Societe Generale said Tuesday it will cut 1,600 jobs worldwide including around 750 in France, as part of two restructuring plans. The lender said it would revamp its global investment arm and streamline its international retail banking and financial services activities in a bid to ensure “profitable and sustainable growth”. The cuts in France would be made “through a voluntary departure plan” while international layoffs would be “in accordance with local regulations and practices,” the lender said in a statement. Khalid Bel Hadaoui, a representative of France’s CFDT union, told AFP that “each year brings with it a number of job cuts”. The news had been expected because Societe Generale had already unveiled a plan to reduce costs by around 500 million euros ( 560 million) by 2020 to increase the profitability of its market activities. Societe Generale reported higher-than-expected profits in 2018 but said it would adjust its targets and those of its investment bank as it anticipated financial headwinds ahead. HOUSTON — The non-profit National Butterfly Center has asked a federal judge to stop border wall activity on its property as the Trump administration gears up to build new barriers in South Texas and may soon win funding for more.In a motion filed late Monday, centre director Marianna Trevino Wright says heavy machinery has been driving through their property for a week, including a road grader accompanied by a U.S. Customs and Border Protection vehicle. The government says it will start this month on the first of 33 miles (53 kilometres) of new walls and fencing. Congress funded construction last year.Congressional negotiators trying to avoid a second government shutdown reached an agreement Monday to fund an additional 55 miles (88 kilometres) of barriers in the Rio Grande Valley.Nomaan Merchant, The Associated Press
Rabat – Moroccan project, Integration of energy efficiency in the building sector, has received a €20 million fund from the Nama Facility, an international climate finance program that seeks to encourage “ambitious action on climate change.”The project earned financial aid as part of an international contest.Commenting on securing the fund, Minister of National Territorial Development and Urban Planning Abdelahad Fassi Fehri said that the selection of the Moroccan project confirms Morocco’s “pioneering” role in the fight against greenhouse gas emissions and climate change. According to the Ministry of National Territorial Development and Urban Planning, the building sector is “one of the major energy-consuming areas in Morocco, it represents 33% of the final energy consumption and records a strong growth of the annual energy consumption.”Read Also: 39% of Moroccans Haven’t Heard of Climate ChangeMorocco suggested the national energy efficiency strategy to achieve energy savings of around 20% through “better use of energy in all areas.”The ministry added that the integration of energy efficiency in construction is “one of the levers that will help to meet the kingdom’s energy challenges and achieve its objectives in the fight against climate change.”Fassi Fehri said that Morocco is “strongly committed, in accordance with the guidelines of King Mohammed VI, to a worldwide movement to fight global warming and limit greenhouse gas emissions.”Morocco’s project was selected after an evaluation of all projects submitted.Experts from the NAMA Facility carried out assessments on the projects.“This project was carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and Mining and the Al Omrane Group,” he said.
The United Nations is maintaining its status quo on Sri Lanka with regards to the investigations on incidents related to the war.The Government had said recently there was no pressure on Sri Lanka with regards to the accountability process. There is also a feeling the policy on Sri Lanka may change with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon stepping down next year. Farhan Haq, the Deputy Spokesman for UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon told The Sunday Leader that the priorities for Sri Lanka have not changed. “I can’t really say what a new person may or may not do. But our priorities for Sri Lanka have not changed,” he said.In light of the UN Committee Against Torture saying “white van” abductions took place even last year after the new government took office there are calls for the government to show more intent to investigate these incidents. “The UN has made clear the need for such investigations,” Farhan Haq said.Recently the United Nations Human Rights Committee ruled that a Toronto man who was allegedly imprisoned and tortured while visiting Sri Lanka must be compensated for the abuses he suffered. The decision calls for Sri Lanka to prosecute those responsible and “provide adequate compensation” to Roy Samathanam, a Canadian who had filed a complaint with the committee three years ago.Samathanam traveled to Colombo during a 2007 lull in the country’s civil war to marry. But police raided his home and seized 600 mobile phones he had helped import from Singapore for a friend’s business. He said after he refused to pay a bribe to police he was taken to a Terrorism Investigation Division detention centre, where he was branded a “Canadian Tiger” and subjected to abuses.
Stay on target For years, Rockstar’s open-world crime sim satire Grand Theft Auto has been one of the most successful video game franchises of all time. It has sold tens of millions of copies to adults and kids with neglectful parents alike. Its controversial content has made it a permanent fixture in culture at large, influencing legislation and even inspiring a bad TV movie about its creation. Those are pretty big accomplishments. And yet, recently GTA has found ways to somehow become even bigger. After a few failed multiplayer experiments, the online mode of Grand Theft Auto V has grown into one of gaming’s biggest ongoing cash cows. It’s the new World of Warcraft, keeping four-year-old game GTA V still among the top ten best-selling games month after month. And I constantly get emails about the new things the massive and ravenous playerbase can and will purchase. I guess it shouldn’t be surprising that folks like pulling off (fake) illegal Tron shenanigans with friends on the internet. Now, GTA Online is taking a page from a more recent mega-popular, gun-heavy online multiplayer game. The latest GTA Online update includes a new Battle Royale mode that’s basically Rockstar’s take on PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.“Smuggler’s Run” is the name of the larger update, and we’ve known about its new vehicles and clothing options for a little while now. But included in the free expansion is also a new Adversary multiplayer mode called “Motor Wars.” Rockstar describes the survival mode as “a deadly scavengers hunt” where “teams parachute into a periodically shrinking kill box strewn with a lethal assortment of guns, explosives, and Weaponized Vehicles.” Survival? Vehicles? Parachutes? Shrinking map? That sounds a lot like PUBG to me.Granted, PUBG didn’t invent the idea of a Battle Royale video game. It began as a mod for crying out loud. But like Dota, it has taken the fundamental appeal of that mod to new heights, selling millions of copies despite technically being an unfinished early access game. But for as big as PUBG is, GTA Online is currently and quietly bigger, even if it doesn’t have the gaming zeitgeist behind it. Plus, GTA Online is available on consoles, whereas PUBG won’t make the leap from PC to Xbox One until this holiday. And people are just more familiar in general with GTA’s more polished mechanics. So now that this “Motor Wars” update is available will GTA Online eat PUBG’s lunch? Probably not. But it could take a big bite. We’re just witnessing the beginning of PUBG’s inevitably enormous impact on online multiplayer shooter video games for years going forward. Expect to soon see its influence in everything from Call of Duty to Battlefield to Rockstar’s own Red Dead Redemption to maybe even Overwatch. Personally, I can’t wait for Splatoon 3: Splattle Royale.Let us know what you like about Geek by taking our survey. ‘Saints Row: The Third’ and ‘Shakedown: Hawaii’ Are GTA on Nintendo SwitchThe History Of Farts In Video Games

South Caicos Member of Parliament, Ruth Blackman said she was happy to see some of the young men of South Caicos get jobs in the hospitality industry as fisheries is floundering.“So far in South Caicos last week was a rough week for the fisherman, and if the trend continues it doesn’t seem as if we’re going to be able to catch up, so that is something Mr. Minister that I think as a country for the fisherman, we are going to have to focus on and see how best we can handle the situation in terms of the poaching and in terms of encouraging the fisherman to look elsewhere, and gain employment in other sectors. I was happy to see a few of the fisherman in South Caicos decide to take up the challenge of not going back to the sea, but staying on land, and working either at the East Bay Resort or the Sail Rock property.”Minister with responsibility for fisheries, Ralph Higgs chimed in with news that a study is to be launched next season to determine if there is over saturation.“This year for the first time we sent to the fisherman a letter that says we will be doing some reviews and some studies of the fishing banks, and the ensuing year we hope to make some sound and some solid decisions on the future of the industry, what the carrying capacity is of the sector for next year, and we will only facilitate the number of persons or licenses that the fishing sector based on science can support.”The issue of the future of the fishing industry was addressed in a recent House of Assembly meeting. Urvashi Rautela shares sizzling photo on InstagramInstagramToddler Twinkle Sharma’s heinous and brutal murder after her parents couldn’t repay a meagre loan of Rs 10,000, has sent shockwaves across the nation. Twinkle Sharma went missing in Aligarh her mutilated and burnt body was found in a dumping ground in Tappal, Aligarh district, Uttar Pradesh, on June 2. Twinkle, aged between 2.5 to 3 years, was brutally murdered by accused Mohammed Zahid, according to reports. The entire film fraternity has reacted strongly and sharply to the whole incident, demanding immediate and harsh justice. From Abhishek Bachchan, Gul Panag, Twinkle Khanna, Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher, Riteish Deshmukh, Genelia Deshmukh, Boman Irani, Arjun Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt to Sidharth Malhotra; celebs took to Twitter to condemn the crime. Amidst all this, what was surprising was Urvashi Rautela’s tweet. It appears Urvashi couldn’t think of anything to write and hence has blatantly copied Sidharth Malhotra’s tweet.Sidharth had tweeted, “Extremely disturbed by the news of #TwinkleSharma. It’s scary to be living in a world where even innocent children are not safe. I urge our authorities to take action to ensure that such a heinous crime is never repeated again! #JusticeForTwinkleSharma” TwitterThe same exact tweet was shared by Urvashi later. And, what’s surprising is this is not the first time when something like this has happened. Earlier too, Urvashi had copied Gigi Hadid’s Instagram message on her Instagram page for which, she had even received a lot of flak.Zahid and his accomplice Aslam were arrested on June 4 by the Aligarh Police, who have as of now ruled out rape. Zahid reportedly admitted to killing the child by choking her with a dupatta (stole). The child’s partially burnt body was found in a bag with her eyes gouged out.

It’s the holiday season, which is not only the time for gifts, but also the period when Sony and Microsoft promised that their newly released PS4 and Xbox One would be back in stock. Both companies kept their promise, and Sony’s pulled ahead in the sales race. Due to the two-to-one sales advantage of Sony’s console, there is a higher probability that you received a PS4 over the holidays instead of an Xbox One.Now that you have obtained the once difficult-to-find console, on what should you now set your sights (and gift certificates)? An extra USB cableA second DualShock 4 controller is an obvious supplementary purchase, but the obnoxious and somewhat sneaky bit is that the extra controller doesn’t come with its own charging cable. Sure, you can just use the one that came with the PS4, but then you won’t be able to have both controllers plugged in at the same time. A USB cable for the controller is a cheap purchase, so it’s only mildly irritating that the extra controllers don’t come with their own.The DualShock 4’s USB cable, a Micro-B, is different from the PS3’s, a Mini-B. The DualShock 4’s Micro-B is the same cable that, for instance, is used to charge the 2013 Nexus 7 tablet, so they’re fairly common. A six-foot USB Micro-B cable can be found for about a buck or two on sites like Monoprice and Newegg.A device that streams and plays external mediaFor now, both the Xbox One and PS4 don’t fully support streaming media from an external device (such as setting up a media server with your computer), nor do they play external media (such as from a USB stick of external hard drive). Considering both consoles have a multitude of media streaming services, like Netflix and Amazon Instant Video, this isn’t a deal-breaker. However, sometimes you just really want to play some media not found on those services — whether it’s a homemade video, or something obtained from the internet via legally murky means. You can’t stream your funny film project to your PS4 from your computer, nor can you put it on a USB drive and play it from there. The cheapest ways to maintain this functionality in your living room is either with a Roku or — surprisingly — an Ouya. The Roku is the easiest solution, and doesn’t have any headache — it’s a breeze to set up, and you can just plug-and-play your external media. You can use the Plex app to stream from another source. The Ouya is the other cheap solution, as it can also handle external media, and has a few streaming app options, but controller support for the media players can sometimes be a pain. The Chromecast cannot play external media, but can stream using the Plex app (and others). All three devices are under $100, with the Chromecast being the cheapest at $35, but you miss out on the ability to plug-and-play media from external storage.Alternatively, you can attempt to wait it out. Sony has previously hinted that it might put external storage and DLNA support back into the PS4 in a future update, but nothing is concrete.Next page: Storage, memberships, and apps… 1 2

Chiu) LOS ANGELES — The life of rapper Nipsey Hussle will be remembered during a public memorial service Thursday that is expected to draw more than 20,000 people to the Staples Center, with thousands more paying their respects to the late rapper during a 25-mile procession through the city .The Nipsey Hussle’s Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at the 21,000-seat downtown arena beginning at 10 a.m. No details have been released about dignitaries and celebrities who will attend, perform or speak. The event will be livestreamed on BET News’ Facebook page .The hearse carrying Hussle’s coffin from the Staples Center will then travel deep into the neighbourhood where the deadly Rodney King race riot began in 1992 and on past the property where Hussle had planned to turn an aging strip mall into new businesses and affordable homes. Finally, it will arrive at a funeral home in the city’s hard-scrabble Crenshaw district, where the rapper was born on Aug. 15, 1985.Hussle was shot to death March 31 while standing outside The Marathon, his South Los Angeles clothing store, not far from where the rapper grew up. The store will be one of the places where Hussle’s casket passes during the procession through South Los Angeles.Eric R. Holder Jr., who has been charged with killing Hussle, has pleaded not guilty. Police have said Holder and Hussle had several interactions the day of the shooting and have described it as being the result of a personal dispute. The 33-year-old Grammy-nominated rapper, whose real name was Ermias Asghedom, was an Eritrean-American father of two who was engaged to actress Lauren London. He was a beloved figure for his philanthropic work that went well beyond the usual celebrity “giving back” ethos. Following his death, political and community leaders were as quick and effusive in their praise as his fellow hip-hop artists.Hussle recently purchased the strip mall where The Marathon is located and planned to redevelop it into a mixed-use commercial and residential complex. The plan was part of Hussle’s broader ambitions to remake the neighbourhood where he grew up and attempt to break the cycle of gang life that lured him in when he was younger. For a decade, Hussle released much sought-after mixtapes that he sold out of the trunk of his car, helping him create a buzz and gain respect from rap purists and his peers. His said his stage name, a play on the 1960s and ’70s rhyming standup comic Nipsey Russell, was given to him as a teen by an older friend because he was such a go-getter — always hustling. He charged $100 for his 2013 mixtape “Crenshaw,” scoring a cash and publicity coup when Jay-Z bought 100 copies for $10,000.Last year he hit new heights with “Victory Lap,” his critically acclaimed major-label debut album on Atlantic Records that made several critics’ best-of lists. The album debuted at No. 4 on Billboard’s 200 albums charts and features collaborations with Kendrick Lamar and CeeLo Green. It earned him a Grammy nomination, though he lost out to Cardi B’s “Invasion of Privacy.”Hussle was also a wildly popular figure among professional athletes, especially those based in LA, where he was a regular on the sidelines. Players admired him for his community building.___Associated Press Writer John Rogers contributed to this report.___Follow AP Entertainment Writer Jonathan Landrum Jr. on Twitter: http://twitter.com/MrLandrum31Jonathan Landrum Jr., The Associated Press AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to TwitterTwitterShare to FacebookFacebookShare to RedditRedditShare to 電子郵件Email

The Court held that though it is morally wrong morally indefensible and morally insensitive for the members of the House of Representatives led by Bankole and Nafada to have increased their “running costs” from N27million per quarter per member to N42million it did not amount to a criminal offence but a moral wrong The court reasoned that the legislature being a different arm of government the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) cannot fix the “running costs” for members of the House of Representatives They are at liberty to increase their “running costs” to whatever amount they so collectively wish Again the judge held that RMAFC can only fix “wages” and “allowances” and not “running costs” and that “running costs” do not qualify as “allowances” OUR DISAGREEMENT ON THIS POINT Section 70 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) states as follows: “70 Remuneration A member of the Senate or of the House of Representatives shall receive such salary and other allowances as the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission may determine” Consequently in our opinion it is wrong for a judge to allow a public officer to take money from the public till under any guise without reference to the RMAFC Our respectful view is that “other allowances” as stated in the Constitution encompasses “running costs” as monies collected by public officers to offset expenses other than wages The difference the judge tried to create is merely splitting of hairs 2?

Hassan presented the call Friday in an attempt to show a federal court jury that she wasn’t involved in a conspiracy to raise money for al-Shabaab which was designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the US government in February 2008 The designation made it illegal for US citizens to provide aidAfter Ali had presented four witnesses and Hassan three both defenses rested Except for an FBI agent called by Hassan’s lawyers all the defense witnesses were Somaliwomen who knew Ali and Hassan and told jurors the defendants were good Muslim women who raised money and collected clothing for the poor in Somalia a country left in shambles by civil war clan warfare drought famine and failed attempts at governmentNeither Ali nor Hassan testifiedGovernment prosecutors and defense attorneys will present closing arguments Monday They’ll be summing up 7-1/2 days of testimony that brought a violent conflict more than 8000 miles away into the calm of a federal courtroom in downtown over a 10-month periodTwenty-four of those calls were between Ali and Hassan and 26 were between Ali and Hassan Afgoye an unindicted co-conspirator who the government says was an al-Shabaab financial one point the government brought in troops from Ethiopia to retake Mogadishu; many Somalis viewed it as an invasion and foreign occupationThere is no dispute that Ali and Hassan were tireless fundraisers for causes in their homeland and that some money went to humanitarian causes But the government claims some money went to al-Shabaab and was meant to fund its fight against the governmentThe money was raised through door-to-door solicitations and teleconferences Ali held; some conferences involved hundreds of people in the US and Canada Although the FBI has identified some people who contributed money none has been chargedTo prove the conspiracy count prosecutors had to show the women were aware of the US government’s designation of al-Shabaab as a terrorist organization or that they knew the money was going to a group engaged in terrorismOne of Hassan’s attorneys Thomas Kelly sought to raise questions about that issue Friday when he cross-examined the government’s sixth and final witness FBI Special Agent Kevin McGrane"Would you agree that what one government might see as terrorism another government might see as freedom fighters" Kelly asked"Well there’s the old axiom that one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter" the agent repliedBecause of the nature of the case and the government’s evidence there was little Ali and Hassan could do to present a unified defense Before and during trial lawyers for each asked Chief US District Judge Michael Davis repeatedly — and again Friday — to allow the women to be tried separatelyHassan’s ServicesTrump’s actions deepened the divide between the United States and its allies and European leaders Sunday expressed shock and resignation at this latest sign that the president is eager to defy diplomatic norms and blow up trade relationships that have been strong for decadesTrudeau had hosted the G-7 summit in Quebec The leaders of the seven industrial powers had managed by Saturday to overcome their differences and cobble together a joint communique expressing common principles and economic aspirationsTrudeau announced the agreement at a news conference and then taking questions from reporters reiterated his objections to Trump’s imposition of tariffs on steel and aluminum from Canada Mexico and the European UnionTrump took umbrage at those comments Traveling on Air Force One to Singapore for the historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un Trump charged Trudeau with "false statements" and accused him of being "dishonest" and "weak"The White House tripled down on the Trudeau attack when it sent two top aides onto the Sunday morning talk showsOne of them said that the bizarre aftermath of the G-7 economic summit was a political calculation meant to show muscularity in advance of the Singapore summit"POTUS is not gonna let a Canadian prime minister push him around" Trump’s chief economic adviser Larry Kudlow said on CNN’s "State of the Union" "He is not going to permit any show of weakness on the trip to negotiate with North Korea""So this was about North Korea" CNN host Jake Tapper asked"Of course it was in large part" Kudlow said "Kim must not see American weakness"Peter Navarro Trump’s top trade adviser denounced Trudeau with language rarely used even against America’s adversaries"There’s a special place in hell for any foreign leader that engages in bad-faith diplomacy with President Donald J Trump and then tries to stab him in the back on the way out the door" Navarro said in an interview on "Fox News Sunday" "And that’s what bad-faith Justin Trudeau did with that stunt press conference"There is no obvious precedent for such a coordinated and acerbic series of attacks by White House advisers on a stalwart US ally Some foreign policy experts argued that North Korea’s Kim could see the chaos at the end of the G-7 gathering as an opening to gain leverage on Trump in negotiations with Trump looking to avoid having two summits collapse back to back The White House strategy of slamming Trudeau was the final twist to the awkward gathering in QuebecTrump had initially roiled the waters by saying Russia – expelled from what had been the G-8 after its annexation of Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula – should have been allowed to participate Trump later said that while he has strong personal relationships with Trudeau and other leaders he believes their countries are ripping off the United States through high tariffs He threatened to stop all trade with any country that did not lower or even eliminate tariffsThe leaders eventually agreed on the joint communique which included pledges to engage in "free fair and mutually beneficial trade and investment" The statement also spoke about protecting the environment and "removing the barriers that keep our citizens including women and marginalized individuals from participating fully in the global economy"Trump then departed Trudeau appeared at a news conference and initially struck a celebratory tone saying "I’m happy to announce we’ve released a joint communique by all seven countries" The prime minister had played down divisions between the United States and the six other members of the G-7 As the summit host Trudeau would not have wanted the four-decade-old G-7 to collapse in his countryBut when questioned about the US imposition of tariffs on steel and aluminum Trudeau reaffirmed his intention to retaliate on July 1 with equivalent tariffs He said the Trump administration’s use of a national security provision to impose the tariffs was "kind of insulting" given that Canadians have fought side by side with Americans in foreign landsHe said of his decision to impose new tariffs "I have made it very clear to the president that it is not something we relish doing But it is something that we absolutely will do Because Canadians we’re polite we’re reasonable but we also will not be pushed around"Those were fighting words for Trump On Twitter he accused Trudeau of "false statements" and wrote that he had ordered his aides to withdraw US endorsement of the joint communique He didn’t specify what he considered false about Trudeau’s statementsTrump also said he would pursue an investigation that could push up tariffs on foreign auto imports and he appeared to tie that to what he viewed as unfair dairy tariffs imposed by CanadaHis tweets carried a tone of personal contempt"PM Justin Trudeau of Canada acted so meek and mild during our @G7 meetings only to give a news conference after I left saying that ‘US Tariffs were kind of insulting’ and he ‘will not be pushed around’ Very dishonest & weak Our Tariffs are in response to his of 270% on dairy" Trump wroteTrudeau did not seem eager to match Trump’s rancor When the Canadian prime minister went on Twitter Sunday morning he did not explicitly address Trump’s comments choosing instead to highlight the virtues of the G-7 agreement"The historic and important agreement we all reached at #G7Charlevoix will help make our economies stronger & people more prosperous protect our democracies safeguard our environment and protect women & girls’ rights around the world" he wrote "That’s what matters"A less measured response to Trump came from Roland Paris a University of Ottawa professor who formerly served as a top foreign policy adviser to TrudeauParis wrote on Twitter: "Big tough guy once he’s back on his airplane Can’t do it in person and knows it which makes him feel [weak] So he projects these feelings onto Trudeau and then lashes out at him You don’t need to be Freud He’s a pathetic little man-child"A number of G-7 officials had tried to brush aside Trump’s comments during the Quebec summit suggesting he was trying to show bravado ahead of his talks with the North Korean leader But things escalated dramatically Sunday with the full-scale White House attack on TrudeauKudlow appearing on both CNN and CBS repeatedly charged Trudeau with the "betrayal" of Trump and other G-7 leaders"He really kind of stabbed us in the back" Kudlow said on CNN "It’s a betrayal It’s essentially double-crossing Not just double-crossing President Trump but other members of the G-7"When he went on CBS’ "Face the Nation" Kudlow made explicit the connection between Trump’s rhetorical jabs at Trudeau and the need to appear strong in Singapore"Trudeau decided to attack the president That’s the key point And yes you know if you attack this president he’s going to fight back" he told host Margaret Brennan "But here’s the key point Margaret [the] president is going to negotiate with Kim of North Korea and Singapore It is a historic negotiation and there is no way this president is not going to stand strong Number one he’s not going to allow the people to suddenly take potshots at him hours before that summit and number two Trudeau should’ve known better"—Story by :Damian Paletta is White House economic policy reporter for The Washington Post Before joining The
