According to the police report, Gregory McMichael told officers he thought Arbery was a suspect in a series of area burglaries and that he had seen the young black man “hauling ass” down the street.McMichael said he went inside and got his .357 Magnum while his son grabbed a shotgun. When they finally caught up with Arbery and Travis McMichael got out of the truck with the shotgun, Arbery began to “violently attack” him, the father said, according to the police report. The father said he saw his son shoot Arbery and Arbery fall to the ground. After the video footage went viral, a Georgia district attorney said Tuesday that a grand jury would be formed to see if there were grounds to charge the father and son.Georgia’s governor, Brian Kemp, retweeted the Bureau of Investigation’s arrest announcement late Thursday and added that the “investigation remains ongoing,” while asking that residents call in with tips.He also praised the bureau’s director and agents “for their swift action,” tweeting that “justice will be served.”US President Donald Trump said Thursday evening he had not yet seen the video but that Arbery’s death was “a very sad thing.””My heart goes out to the parents and to the loved ones of the young gentleman,” Trump said, adding he would get a full report of the situation later.Around the country, political figures, celebrities and people on social media expressed fury.”The video is clear: Ahmaud Arbery was killed in cold blood. My heart goes out to his family, who deserve justice and deserve it now,” Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden tweeted Wednesday night.Stacey Abrams, a former Georgia state lawmaker and potential Biden runningmate, hailed the arrest as an “important first step, but the first of many.””We must not look away,” she tweeted. Before the pair’s detainment, actress Zoe Kravitz said in an Instagram post that Arbery “was murdered by two white men, ON CAMERA, and dudes have not been arrested. come on, people.” It was shared by such figures as Billie Eilish and Kylie Jenner. Some drew parallels between this case and the shooting death of another unarmed young black man, Trayvon Martin, by a neighborhood guard in Florida in 2012.”We’re literally hunted EVERYDAY/EVERYTIME we step foot outside the comfort of our homes!” basketball great LeBron James said on Instagram.Topics : Police on Thursday arrested two white men for the shooting death of an unarmed black jogger in Georgia whose killing was captured in a video that went viral, sparking a massive public outcry.Ahmaud Arbery, 25, was killed on February 23 as he ran on a sunny day in a residential neighborhood in the town of Brunswick. Advertisement David Luiz has had an unsteady start to life at Arsenal (Picture: Getty Images)David Luiz has absolutely none of the qualities needed by Arsenal manager Unai Emery, according to former Chelsea and Celtic striker Tony Cascarino. The Brazilian arrived at the Emirates from Chelsea this summer in a move which was widely praised as a positive signing for the Gunners. However, it has been a dodgy start to life in north London for the 32-year-old who has not kept a clean sheet in his four Premier League appearances for Arsenal so far.He was criticised for his performance in the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield last month and was at fault again against Watford on Sunday as he felled Roberto Pereyra in the penalty box, giving away a spot-kick for the second time in his short Arsenal career.AdvertisementAdvertisementADVERTISEMENTRepublic of Ireland international Cascarino has been scathing of the Gunners’ display at Vicarage Road as they tossed away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2, specifically calling out Luiz for his lack of positive influence.Cascarino wrote for the Times: ‘Arsenal had no control, no composure. They needed to sign a defender this summer, someone who is cool under pressure and has leadership qualities — and they went and spent £8 million on David Luiz, a player who has never embodied any of those qualities.’More: FootballRio Ferdinand urges Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to drop Manchester United starChelsea defender Fikayo Tomori reveals why he made U-turn over transfer deadline day moveMikel Arteta rates Thomas Partey’s chances of making his Arsenal debut vs Man CityArsenal had been in total control at Watford, leading 2-0 at half time, but defensive mistakes cost them two points after the break. Before Luiz gave away the penalty, Sokratis Papastathopoulos was at fault by giving the ball away in his own box, allowing Tom Cleverley to score.Cascarino believes that little has improved since Unai Emery took over as manager last summer as the players are not capable of carrying out the Spaniard’s plans.‘Emery has been at Arsenal for more than a year and, while they have improved in some areas, the same problems remain,’ the 57-year-old continued.‘Last season we were talking about whether they had the players to always be passing the ball out from the back, and we are still having that debate now — it must be infuriating for Arsenal fans to watch and I don’t see it changing anytime soon.’Arsenal are looking to bounce back from the disappointing draw at Watford with a busy week ahead of them, traveling to take on Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League on Sunday before hosting Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday and Nottingham Forest in the League Cup the following Tuesday.MORE: Who is to blame for Arsenal’s defensive deficiencies after Sunday’s epic collapse against Watford?MORE: Arsenal defender Sokratis admits he cost his team the game against Watford Metro Sport ReporterMonday 16 Sep 2019 5:47 pmShare this article via facebookShare this article via twitterShare this article via messengerShare this with Share this article via emailShare this article via flipboardCopy link27Shares David Luiz has never had any of the qualities Arsenal need, says Tony Cascarino Comment Advertisement
Bouma warned that HBS was “not an appropriate instrument and it should not be part of the stress tests”.He also added a possible alternative approach for EIOPA: “By using alternative approaches such as cash flow analysis many of the problems that the ‘common framework’ would bring could be avoided.” As an example, Bouma cited the mark-to-market approach. But the PensionsEurope chairman also added some positive notes, welcoming the decision to use one scenario, rather than three, “which means fewer costs and less effort for IORPs”.EIOPA chairman Gabriel Bernardino confirmed the stress tests will be issued “in mid-May” this year, as planned.“This year’s stress test will include all European countries with material IORP sectors,” he said.He added that the stress tests would help to “assess the impact of pension funds on the real economy”.“Defined benefit pension funds will have to calculate the impact of adverse market scenarios on plan assets and defined contribution plans the impact on future pension income,” Bernardino said. The EIOPA chairman also called on all stakeholders to take part in EIOPA’s current survey on pan-European DC pension frameworks, which is open until 4 April.Every EU member state must finalise implementation of the IORP II directive by 31 January 2019, but Christian Röhle, head of Pensionskassen management at the pension fund of Hoechst group, warned German funds would have to find a way around a potential problem with the new rules.“A problem might arise from the fact that synergies, e.g. using the same risk manager for the company as for the pension fund, are no longer allowed,” he said. Many companies in Germany are using the same experts and board members for their pension funds but in future they will have to ensure compliance standards are met and conflicts of interests are managed. Röhle called for German authorities to introduce an exemption for this rule and “to keep the proportionality principle in mind”. PensionsEurope wants “no further changes” to the regulations regarding pension funds, as it prepares for the launch of a continent-wide stress test regime.Janwillem Bouma, chairman of PensionsEurope, reiterated a previous call for “a period of legislative calm”, this time until a planned review of the IORP II directive in 2020.Speaking at the occupational pensions conference organised by the German newspaper Handelsblatt in Berlin, Bouma criticised the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority’s (EIOPA) approach to further reforms.“PensionsEurope has rejected the holistic balance sheet [HBS] approach but EIOPA continues to work on the ‘common framework’ – as if a name change was changing the subject,” Bouma said. “IORP II already contains a thorough framework for pension risk management and pension funds already regularly carry out stress tests as part of their own processes.”

London, United Kingdom | AFP | Arsenal’s Europa League encounter with Cologne finally got underway an hour late on Thursday despite police making arrests after dealing with “disorder” at the Emirates Stadium as German fans occupied home sections of the ground.Thousands of ticketless supporters of German club Cologne arrived at the Emirates, while travelling supporters who did have tickets were unable to gain access to the ground for the Group H opener, with kick-off delayed by an hour in the interests of “crowd safety”.The match did begin at its rescheduled time of 9:05pm local time (2005 GMT), having been pushed back an hour from its original 8:05pm (1905 GMT) start. Some Arsenal fans called for the Cologne supporters to be moved to designated away areas but stewards decided to leave them where they were, with a club spokesman telling Britain’s Press Association: “The players were relaxed and preparing for the game despite the delay… The decision to go ahead was the best option and the safest option.”Cologne fans, who had been singing before kick-off, had even more reason to celebrate when Jhon (attn eds: correct) Cordoba’s 40-yard strike gave the visitors a ninth-minute lead.“Officers are dealing with disorder at the Emirates Stadium where fans have gathered for the Arsenal vs FC Koln match,” said a pre-match statement issued by London’s Metropolitan Police.“A policing plan is in place for the game. Additional officers have been deployed.” Meanwhile Arsenal issued a statement on their website warning travelling fans they risked being kicked out of the ground if they bought tickets in the sections of the Emirates reserved for home supporters.“Please note visiting supporters that purchase a ticket in the home end for this fixture are likely to be ejected from the stadium,” the statement said.Cologne are currently bottom of the Bundesliga table, having lost all three of their opening games in this season’s German top flight. But they qualified for the Europa League after finishing fifth last term.Cologne coach Peter Stoeger, asked on the eve of the Group H opener if he had a message for the thousands of travelling fans, replied: “Enjoy the pubs!”Share on: WhatsApp A subsequent statement confirmed arrests had taken place.“Arrests at 2141hrs (2041 GMT) = four people have been arrested on suspicion of public order offences,” Scotland Yard said. One social media post appeared to indicate scuffles inside the ground, with Richard Conway, a BBC sports news correspondent, tweeting: “Koln (Cologne) fans fighting with stewards inside Emirates stadium. Group arrived in home end and fought their way into away section.”Earlier reports suggested as many as 20,000 Cologne fans had gathered in London just hours before Thursday’s kick-off despite only 3,000 tickets being made available to away supporters.Posts on social media sites showed large numbers of Cologne fans singing and marching around Oxford Circus in central London.
London, United Kingdom | AFP | Chelsea’s bid to qualify for the Champions League suffered a hammer blow as Huddersfield secured their Premier League survival with a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.Antonio Conte’s side fell behind to Laurent Depoitre’s second half strike and although Marcos Alonso bagged a fortuitous equaliser, the Blues couldn’t find a priceless winner.Fifth placed Chelsea’s attempt to salvage a troubled season by finishing in the top four is now out of their hands heading into the final game of the season at Newcastle on Sunday.Huddersfield’s reward for a tenacious display is another season among English football’s elite after a superb result that seals their safety with a game in spare.
