Eamich said no E coli contamination or other “product failures” have been found in the expanded testing program so far. The department is no longer requiring that importers hold shipments of Canadian meat until pathogen testing is completed, Amanda Eamich of the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) reported. However, she said increased inspections and testing will continue. Tests take 3 to 7 days, depending on the pathogen, officials have said. A spike in E colirelated meat recalls this year prompted the USDA in October to vow to take a number of steps to combat the problem. As of Oct 23, the agency said E coli in ground beef had sparked 15 recalls, eight of which involved illnesses. In 2006 there were just eight such recalls, none involving illnesses, the agency said. The USDA has also been inspecting the Rancher’s Beef plant and several other Canadian meat facilities that were previously flagged for problems or are similar to Rancher’s Beef in their operations. The dropping of the requirement to hold meat during testing “was due to the preliminary findings of our audits and the first week or so of testing,” Eamich told CIDRAP News. “We had previously said we would reassess after we got the preliminary data.” Eamich said the USDA has long had guidelines recommending that companies hold meat until test results come back, “but it’s not something we require,” she said. She added that there are no proposals to change that. The move came after beef trim from a Canadian packing plant, Rancher’s Beef of Balzac, Alta., was implicated in an Escherichia coli O157:H7 outbreak linked to ground beef from Topps Meat Co. of Elizabeth, N.J. Ghanaian football historian James Oyedeji is dead after battling a short illness.The celebrated historian died at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra on Monday April 4.Oyedeji was rushed to the hospital last month after suffering mild stroke.The former Mighty Jets administrative manager is a household name in Ghana with his rich knowledge of football and other sports.He is hugely regarded as football repository in the West African country with an enviable historical record.Oyedeji held a MSc. Trivonna often asks lots of questions both in our showroom and in the customer’s kitchen.In talking with Larry and Elizabeth, she learned that Larry was the primary cook, but both were active in the kitchen – often in each other’s way. For example: she needed in the oven while he was at the stove. Upon entering their kitchen she saw that it was somewhat dated (tile counters, white doors on wood cabinets with framed soffits and pantry).As they talked, she learned that, when working at the computer desk, they felt like they were in a hole — separated from the rest of the family. They also needed more (or more usable) storage. After considering various design ideas, the new kitchen featured Dewils inset cherry cabinets. The upper cabinets kissed the ceiling (adding more storage). The framed in pantry was replaced with two pantry cabinets including a combination of drawers and roll out trays, providing far more accessible storage. The desk was moved to the end of the kitchen near the family room. A wall microwave and oven were installed away from the cook-top.This kitchen was remodeled by Tim Dickey, and won the Olympia Master Builders 2011 Remodeling Excellence Award!
