The annual state fair is canceled. But with some competition planned one thing that hasn’t changed is Indiana Farm Bureau stepping up to the plate and helping support 4-H members.Chelsea Poe, the INFB membership development manager, says they wanted to be a part of this year’s events even without the traditional exhibit they’ve hosted so many years on the north side of the fairgrounds.“When we really think about who we are and the people we support in our members, they’re all on the south side of the fairgrounds in those livestock barns,” Poe told HAT. “This was a great for us to tie those two together. Of course consumer education is a big piece of the puzzle and something we work on, but we thought that this support of the youth livestock exhibitors would be a good thing for us and a good fit.”Indiana Farm Bureau is the presenting sponsor of the exhibitor experience with the livestock show.“We also added a new piece to our sponsorship this year which is that we are sponsoring all showmanship in the livestock species, so that is individual species showmanship along with the supreme showman drive that happens during the fair. So, that’s an additional piece and then from what we have done the past two years we are still the sponsor of the Supreme Drive which happens that second weekend of the fair.”Ironically INFB’s board of directors had decided early in the year on a shift in focus at the State Fair to support of the livestock shows.“It just so happened to work out that was the piece of the puzzle that kept going with the modified state fair.”The Indiana State Fair 4-H Livestock Competition and 4-H Project Showcase will take place Aug. 7 through Sept. 5 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center in Indianapolis.“Many of the future leaders of Farm Bureau can be found on the fairgrounds each summer showcasing livestock and a variety of ag-related projects,” added Randy Kron, INFB president. “While this year’s state fair will look different, we’re pleased that our 4-H’ers will still be able to compete and we’re thrilled to be able to support them as a presenting sponsor. They’re the future of Indiana agriculture.”Farm Bureau will provide awards to top-level showmanship winners throughout the youth livestock showmanship competitions. The awards include:Individual grand and reserve grand champion showmanship species winners each will receive a rolling luggage bag; the grand and reserve grand champion overall supreme showmen each will receive a custom belt buckle; the grand champion winners in the Supreme Drive on Aug. 16 each will receive a four-foot, upright showbox. INFB’s focus on supporting future leaders in agriculture goes beyond its efforts at the state fair. Other youth and young adult programming includes: scholarships for graduating seniors and college students; four collegiate Farm Bureau chapters; FFA advocacy days and trainings; and additional leadership development events, competitions, awards and conferences.Source: Indiana Farm Bureau By Andy Eubank – Jul 1, 2020 Facebook Twitter Previous articleSoybean Growers Call Gap-Year SREs a “Devastating Blow”Next articleUSMCA Now in Effect; Why it’s Important to Indiana Agriculture Andy Eubank Facebook Twitter SHARE

The Paralympic Games will follow from August 25 to September 6. International Paralympic Committee President Andrew Parsons has backed the IOC’s decision, describing the four weeks as a “window of opportunity”. “The next four weeks will provide time to see if the global health situation improves, while giving a window of opportunity to look into different scenarios should the dates of the Games need to be changed,” Parsons said. World Athletics have also expressed their intention to support the IOC to find an alternative. The governing body are due to hold their World Championships in Eugene next August, which could clash with a potentially rescheduled Olympic Games. “World Athletics welcomes discussions with the IOC to postpone the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and wrote to the IOC earlier today to relay this feedback from its Area Presidents, Council and athletes. “We stand ready to work with the IOC and all sport on an alternative date.” Support has also come from IOC TOP Sponsor Coca-Cola, with the company’s Head of Global Sponsorships, Ricardo Fort, backing the decision. “The IOC is taking the right steps to proper evaluate their options,” he tweeted. “Whatever decision they make, it will be based on facts (and not on the pressure of any one Federation in any one country, no matter the Federation or the country). The British Olympic Association (BOA) welcomed the statement, but called for the IOC to have rapid decision-making. Read Also:Olympics Amidst Covid-19? Count us out BOA tells IOC “However, we urge rapid decision-making for the sake of the athletes who still face significant uncertainty,” said Sir Hugh Robertson, BOA chairman. “Restrictions have removed the ability of athletes to compete on a level playing field and it simply does not seem appropriate to continue towards the Olympic Games in the current environment.” FacebookTwitterWhatsAppEmail分享 An IOC Executive Board meeting took place by teleconference. The four week window is expected to allow the IOC and Tokyo 2020 the chance to study different options regarding a postponement of the Games. The IOC said the scenarios will involve either modifying existing operational plans, which would allow the go ahead on 24 July. Changes to the start date of the Games will also be considered. The time frame provided by the IOC follows mounting pressure from athletes and National Olympic Committees over the fate of the Games, due to the coronavirus pandemic. IOC President Thomas Bach admitted for the first time earlier this week that alternative scenarios were being considered by the organisation. A postponement has now been acknowledged openly for the first time. The IOC repeated that cancellation of the Games “is not on the agenda.” “A decision about a postponement today could not determine a new date for the Olympic Games because of the uncertain developments in both directions: an improvement, as we are seeing in a number of countries thanks to the severe measures being taken or a deteriorating situation in other countries,” Bach said in a letter to athletes. “Contrary to other sports events, to postpone the Olympic Games is an extremely complex challenge. “A number of critical venues needed for the Games could potentially not be available anymore. “The situations with millions of nights already booked in hotels is extremely difficult to handle, and the international sports calendar for at least 33 Olympic sports would have to be adapted. “These are just a few of many, many more challenges. “Therefore, further the study of different scenarios, it would need the full commitment and cooperation of the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee and the Japanese authorities, and of all the International Federations (IFs) and National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and all stakeholders of the Olympic Games. “It is in light of the worldwide deteriorating situation, and in the spirit of our shared commitment to the Olympic Games, that the IOC Executive Board has today initiated the next step in our scenarios. “Together with all the stakeholders, we have started detailed discussions today to complete our assessment of the rapid development of the worldwide health situation and its impact on the Olympic Games, including a scenario of postponement. “We are working very hard, and we are confident that we will have finalised these discussions within the next four weeks.” Bach claimed there had been “significant improvements” in Japan regarding the coronavirus outbreak. A final decision on the Tokyo 2020 Olympics will be reached in four weeks by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) with the postponement of the Games set to be assessed.

On Tuesday, October 26th, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke hosted a first-ever roundtable discussion with members of his leadership team and veteran service organizations about hunting and fishing access on public lands for Veterans. Over 20 veteran advocates, many who specialize in hunting and fishing therapy for returning warriors, shared experiences and ideas to make public lands more accessible to veterans with and without disabilities.“Hunting and fishing present such an incredible healing opportunity for our veterans who return home with physical and emotional wounds. Unfortunately, many of our public lands are either inaccessible to individuals with various physical disabilities, or we just don’t offer programs to encourage veterans to access and use them. I want these warriors to be able to return home from their service and enjoy the very lands they fought to protect. I want to make sure hunting and fishing on public lands is easily accessible and available. Hearing ideas from leaders in the veteran community about how to achieve this goal has given my team some much-needed insight as we move forward,” said Secretary Zinke.Veteran and Senior Extension Associate Dr. Keith G. Tidball shook hands and thanked Secretary Ryan Zinke for his service in defense of freedom, and asked that he continue to defend access to public lands for veterans. For information on how to learn more about Natural Resources in your community, contact your Cooperative Extension office. Days after an internal inquiry absolved Gorakhpur-based paediatrician Kafeel Khan of the major charges against him in the 2017 BRD hospital tragedy that saw about 30 children succumb due to the ostensible lack of oxygen, the Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday asserted that Dr. Khan had not been given a clean chit as yet. Moreover, a fresh departmental inquiry has been initiated against him for spreading “misinformation” about the probe report and for making “anti-government” political comments during the period of his suspension. The State has also rapped Dr. Khan for “causing panic” by attempting to treat patients by forcibly entering the paediatric department of district hospital Bahraich with “three, four outsiders” on September 22, 2018.With this, Dr. Khan faces a total of seven charges. All four previous charges against the doctor, including the two for which apparently no evidence was found against him in the internal report, are still pending for departmental action, a senior official asserted. Two years after he was suspended and jailed following the deaths of infants due to alleged lack of oxygen supply at the State-run BRD Medical College, Dr. Khan last week shared with the media an internal report absolving him of the major charge of “medical negligence.”The report’s author also observed that Dr. Khan was not involved in the process of supply, tender, maintenance, payment or the ordering of oxygen, and that he was also not the nodal officer of the enchephalitis ward at the medical college in Gorakhpur. However, the report found Dr. Khan guilty of indulging in private practice, which goes against the rules.Principal Secretary, medical education, Rajneesh Dube asserted that Dr. Khan had spread false and misleading information, including on social media, that he had got a clean chit on the basis of this report.Mr. Dube said that the interim report had found Dr. Khan guilty on two out of the four counts: of private practice and corruption (for allegedly running a private nursing home while holding the post of a senior resident and regular spokesperson for government service). This, Mr. Dube asserted, was “a matter of serious corruption and gross violation of rules.”Also, even on the other two charges, “a final decision is not yet taken by the government,” Mr. Dube clarified, adding a ‘clean chit’ was still pending. The official asserted that as per new records it appeared that “prima facie” Dr. Khan was the nodal officer of the 100-bed ward in 2016 and 2017. There were several “correspondences” by him as a nodal officer and he was also a member of the purchasing committee, Mr. Dube said.Reacting to the government’s fresh action against him, Dr. Khan claimed that the State government had framed three new charges against him “to divert” attention from the “real issues.”Dr. Khan said instead of holding press conferences on him, the government should hold one on the ‘infants who had died of a sudden shortage of liquid oxygen.’
